ABOUT US
In 2014, we lost our mother, Sofia Zafar. But her spirit lives on in every life we touch.
Growing up in Bangladesh, we may not have had much money, but we were surrounded by incredible love and joy. Our father was an elementary school teacher, and our mother was a woman who showed us that true wealth comes from an open heart. We remember the excitement of coming home from school to find extra plates set at our dinner table for neighbors who needed a warm meal. We’d watch with pride as our mother shared our outgrown clothes with other children, always smiling and saying, “Allah has blessed us with enough to share.” Even though we didn’t have fancy things or expensive furniture, our simple home became a place where people found comfort and hope.
Through all of this, our parents managed to raise ten children who grew up to be successful, well-rounded people, each established in our own lives today. But the greatest gift they gave us wasn’t our achievements, it was understanding that success means nothing if we forget where we came from. Our mother had a special gift for seeing potential in people others had written off, and the courage to speak truth with love. She was incredibly kind yet refreshingly honest, with no patience for lies but endless compassion for genuine need. Every act of kindness she performed in front of us became a lesson we carried forward.
When we lost her, the grief felt overwhelming. But as we came together in our sorrow, we realized something powerful: our mother had already shown us how to honor her memory. As a devoted Muslim, she lived by the principle of Sadaqah Jariyah, doing good deeds that continue helping others and earning spiritual rewards even after death. She practiced this every single day, and we knew we had to carry it forward.
The SofiaZafar Foundation was born from that commitment. Over the past several years, we’ve been serving Bangladesh’s most vulnerable communities, focusing especially on orphaned children and poor families. We run Islamic schools where families pay very little, ensuring quality education reaches those who need it most. Our healthcare programs provide free and affordable medical care to people who would otherwise go without treatment. We’ve helped hundreds of children access education and provided medical care to countless families across rural Bangladesh.
Every child who learns to read in our schools, every patient who receives treatment at our clinics, every orphaned child who finds hope through our programs becomes part of our mother’s continuing legacy. This isn’t just about preserving Sofia Zafar’s memory; it’s about multiplying her impact across Bangladesh’s communities that need it most. When you join our mission through monthly donations for orphaned children’s education, one-time contributions for emergency medical care, sharing our story, or partnering with us, you become part of a story that began with one woman’s open heart. Ready to keep Sofia Zafar’s legacy alive? Every contribution creates the same ripple of hope she started in her own community.
